SeaBOS has adopted a new model and structure designed to strengthen delivery, increase accountability, and drive measurable impact towards ocean stewardship in the decade ahead.
The new model retains the core CEO-Science collaboration at the heart of SeaBOS. CEOs reaffirm their dedication to the SeaBOS mission and commitments.
The new SeaBOS model is structured around three key elements:
- Flexible Theme Activities will enable targeted, operational action by companies to engage where they have greatest relevance and capability, accelerating progress on priority issues.
- The Open Forum, which is expected to be held annually, will strengthen external engagement and exchange by convening SeaBOS members with external experts and stakeholders to focus on specific challenges, facilitating two-way knowledge exchange and strengthening partnerships across science, industry, government, conservation, and civil society.
- Our Global Voice will be used in a coordinated manner to engage with key stakeholders and draw attention to core topics aligned with agreed strategic priorities.

Members also reaffirmed their commitment to completing the two existing Keystone Projects:
- The West Coast Africa project addressing IUU fishing and modern slavery risks
- The AMR project developing and testing an industry-aligned methodology to detect and quantify antimicrobial resistance
Building on existing science-business practice and progress as highlighted in the SeaBOS Impact
Report 2025, and addressing challenges resulting from shifts in global governance, operating
environments, and departure of two foundation members in 2025, the new model is intended to
accelerate momentum, deepen commitment among members, and broaden impact across the
seafood sector.
SeaBOS member CEOs and Science Leads reaffirmed the importance of the unique collaboration
between leading scientists and global seafood executives. The new model will strengthen the
ability of SeaBOS to drive a transformation toward sustainable seafood production and a healthy
ocean.
Helene Ziv-Douki, Chair of the Association of CEOs, emphasized that the updated structure marks
an important evolution for SeaBOS. By introducing greater flexibility and a formal Open Forum
while preserving the core science–industry partnership and collective “global voice,” the model
strengthens ownership, deepens engagement, and enhances long-term effectiveness.
Henrik Österblom, science founder of SeaBOS and Chair of the SeaBOS Foundation, welcomed
the continued commitment from seafood leaders and noted that the new structure opens
opportunities for broader engagement across the seafood value chain in support of the SeaBOS
mission.
The undersigned CEOs and Science Leads reaffirm their commitment to working together to
strengthen stewardship of seafood production and ocean health, and to drive lasting positive
change.
